Pay Rate: Based on Experience
Schedule: 1st Shift | Monday–Thursday | 9:00 AM–7:30 PM

Position Summary

SMS Staffing is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Chemical Operator to join our client’s manufacturing team in North Chicago, IL. The Chemical Operator will be responsible for safely handling and transferring chemical materials, operating equipment, completing production documentation, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working around chemicals, follows safety procedures, and can work effectively in a physically demanding manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate a forklift to move materials and products.
• Label and fill drums according to established procedures.
• Operate a variety of pumps, hoses, and related equipment to fill tanks and tank trucks.
• Accurately complete manufacturing paperwork, production records, and checklists.
• Follow established operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Perform assigned production and material-handling activities.
• Follow food safety procedures and requirements when applicable.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and write English.
• Basic math skills and ability to accurately follow measurements and instructions.
• Comfortable working around chemicals and in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to safety and detail.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, acid suits, goggles, and steel-toed work boots/shoes.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting as required.
• Ability to climb ladders, platforms, or other equipment as needed.
• May be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must be available to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to safely perform job duties in a chemical manufacturing environment.
